About me
I've always been driven by one question: how do we get machines to learn and act in the messy, real world? That curiosity has taken me from Ecuador to South Korea to New Zealand — and deep into robotics and machine learning.
Since childhood I've been enthusiastic about electronics. That inspired me to pursue a degree in electronic engineering with an emphasis on control systems at the Salesian Polytechnic University in Ecuador, where I discovered my passion for research and for solving complex problems.
After my bachelor's, I joined the R&D Center of the Ecuadorian Air Force as a development engineer. There I was part of the National Autopilot Project, working alongside a team to design and build an autopilot system for unmanned aircraft — my first taste of taking research all the way to a system that flies.
In August 2015 I was awarded the KGSP scholarship from the South Korean Government and moved across the world for a master's program — the coolest opportunity of my life. There I honed advanced skills in ROS, Gazebo, and Python, and contributed to research at the Human-Robot Interaction Laboratory at Kyung Hee University.
In June 2024 I completed my PhD at the University of Auckland, supported by a scholarship from the CARES Lab, focusing on enhancing robots' efficiency, safety, and precision in real-world applications.
Since 2025 I've been working in industry, bringing machine learning into real-world applications. Both my research and my day-to-day work live in machine learning — integrating it with robotics to turn ideas into systems that actually run in production.
I enjoy cycling through mountain trails, hiking whenever the weather allows, and playing tennis. I also love the calm of instrumental music — though I've yet to pick up an instrument myself.
